Membership & Auditions

How does one join the choir?  Can anyone sit in on a rehearsal?  What are auditions like?

Can anyone sit in on rehearsals?

Yes, we welcome visitors.  This gives you an opportunity to hear us practice and to experience the strong bonds of friendship that exist between us as we work toward our common goal.  Visitors should make their intentions known so we can look for them.  Our rehearsal space is in West Seattle, at the American Legion Hall, Post 160 (click here for map).  During rehearsal time (Tuesdays 6:30-9:00 p.m., Sept-May), the hall is open.  However, please let us know if we should be expecting you by contacting President@Boeingchoir.org.

How does one join the choir?

Choir members are selected by an open audition process that primarily takes place in early September and again in early January. From time to time we will hold auditions to replenish our ranks during the year. All singers are eligible, but some priority is given to those associated with The Boeing Company. Final selection of new members rests with the music director as he is responsible for maintaining the blend and balance of the voices in the choir.  Because most of our choir members are not professional singers, we work hard to achieve the level of excellence we have set for ourselves.

What are auditions like?

If you want to sing with us after attending a few rehearsals on Tuesday evening, you simply indicate that interest to our music director.  He will ask to hear you sing sometime, either before or after a rehearsal.  It is not a formal or intimidating experience, it’s just your chance to demonstrate your vocal aptitude and for him to learn more about you.

What kind of commitment do you expect?

We sing around 20 concerts a year, and expect our singers to make sincere efforts to attend all of our rehearsals as well.   We have two performance seasons: one in the fall/winter, and one in the spring. The season starts in early September and runs into the beginning of June. The Christmas season is the busiest time of the year, but typically we are on hiatus for the last two weeks of December.

Members make annual tax deductible membership donations (we are a federally-recognized 501c(3) non-profit organization).
