David Chrysler – Conductor
David Chrysler joined us as the conductor of The Boeing Employees Choir in September, 2010.
For over 30 years David Chrysler has served as music director of choirs in California, Oregon, and Washington, conducting a wide variety of music including a long list of choral-orchestral masterworks from the Durufle Requiem, Poulenc Gloria, and Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem to the more familiar Haydn Creation, Mendelssohn Elijah, and Bach Christmas Oratorio. While living in California David received a Master and Doctorate of Music from the University of Southern California and was conductor of the Los Cancioneros Master Chorale, the Marymount Palos Verdes Symphony, and Assistant Conductor of the touring USC Concert Choir.
Whatever music David is conducting, he is driven by the conviction that the meaning of the music lies in its emotional and expressive content and his goal is forever to draw this out of individuals. The following press reviews point to such an outlook:
“The choir and orchestra performed with precision and emotional involvement this twentieth-century masterpiece, causing the rare and welcome spine tinglings which signal to me that something extraordinary is happening.”
“The church choir of 60 voices and a 23-member orchestra received a standing ovation from an audience clearly moved not only by Poulenc but also by a powerful and sensitive interpretation.”
“More significantly, however, was the degree of intensity maintained throughout, which could only be accomplished by the conductor’s ability to communicate with his people.”
“The church had people packed in the narthex to hear a celebration of music that would certainly rival professional performance in verve and animus and likely in proficiency as well.”
